Employers with well-established health and safety programs and IT solutions are better prepared to make necessary adjustments to keep employees safe

Workplace health and safety programs have been center stage for employers over the last several months. Each year during Safe + Sound Week, OSHA recognizes the successes of workplace health and safety programs and offers information and ideas on how to keep America's workers safe. With added challenges this year, it seems especially fitting for employers to take a moment to recognize their commitment to health and safety.

This year’s Safe + Sound event is August 10-16 and participation is easy. Visit OSHA’s website to sign up and gain access to activity suggestions, graphics and other resources. Then, after you’ve completed your events, download a certificate and a virtual challenge coin to recognize your organization.

Employee health and safety programs are an important step in proactively identifying and managing workplace hazards before they cause injury or illness, improving sustainability and the bottom line. They do so by improving compliance with laws and regulations, reducing workers' compensation premiums, engaging workers and increasing productivity.

During the current COVID-19 pandemic, organizations with well-established programs have been better prepared to make necessary adjustments to keep employees safe. This is especially true of employers with onsite health clinics that use an occupational and employee health IT solution. The automation of health surveillance activities, injury, illness and incident management, mass immunization programs and employee engagement make it possible for employers to handle the management of self-reporting of symptoms, quarantines, work-from-home situations and other COVID-related tasks.

It’s been a busy year, and all indications are that the COVID-19 situation will continue to bring about new challenges. Take a moment to recognize your hard work during Safe + Sound week. You deserve it!
